META’s role
• To promote the Mediterranean all over the world
• To give our members decisive advantages through adapted programmes


International tourism operates through a chain in which each link must produce faultless quality:

Production (Tour-operator),
Distribution (physical or electronic travel agents),
Carriers (air, rail, maritime, road),
Accommodation specialists (from the smallest to the most imposing),
Inbound operators (in charge of developing the holiday « theme » and hosting it).

In the context of international tourism, these five components sometimes act from very distant countries. Decisions are made according to investment constraints, tour-operator result targets, the yearly evolution of outbound and inbound destinations, and the expectations and evolution of tourist behaviour.

flecheMETA’S SEVEN OBJECTIVES
To multiply the opportunities for professionals in the tourism chain interested in Mediterranean destinationsto get together: production, distribution, transport, accommodation, activity
To increase the number of physical and virtual meetings and discussions throughout the year.

To prevent the Mediterranean’s global market share from declining: 35 % in 2000, with a trend towards 30 % of international arrivals at present.
To present the Mediterranean, its professionals and tourism products consistently on the new big outbound destinations: Brazil, Russia, India, China, countries which are not familiar with the destination, through itinerant Mediterranean workshops.

To analyze and understand the main data essential for business forecasts
To group together all existing data (OMT, EUROSTAT, WTTC, other public and private observatories), set up reliable indicator systems and distribute them widely and free of charge from the web site to the professionals who are META members.

To keep Mediterranean tourism professionals informed of development news
To circulate news from the main tourism media and all other sources, in several languages: new investment, opportunities, working plans, essential news on the outbound and inbound destinations.

To highlight the obstacles and lack of access to technical data, find solutions with the world’s best specialists, circulate solutions which work elsewhere.
Targeted conferences, symposiums, on line news, encourage the intervention of META professionals in the NGOs and public and political structures concerned.

To anticipate and prevent the development mistakes on emerging Mediterranean destinations, and accompanyimprovements on mature destinations
To organize frequent contact between the NGOs specialized in sustainable development with the help of the European Union’s specialized structures, from the point of view of the specialists in national and regional development, operators and financiers, to advise public authorities, and in the long term label the new or updated offers

To contribute to giving the tourism industry its rightful place as the leading economy in the Mediterranean (employment, training, tax revenue, contribution to the balance of payments, town & country planning, respect of sites)

Through the development of tourism’s ability to provide structure for developing countries and tourism-centred preferential cooperation, to stimulate Mediterranean economic development. The activity can only be generated in a zone of peace, to be reinforced by the communication between people that it generates.
